The Ultimate List Of 27 Exceptional Blogging Tips

The Ultimate List Of 27 Exceptional Blogging Tips

Anybody can start blogging. But, not everyone is good at it. Why? Well, in most cases, people just lack the knowledge and skills of a good blogger. Good news is, those can easily be acquired with a little time and effort. Today, I will (hopefully) boost your blogging skills with these exceptional (in my opinion) 27 blogging tips. Here we go.

Blogging Tip #1: Get Ideas From Your Audience

Without your audience, you are nothing. You need an audience that remains engaged with your blog and the best way to achieve that is to listen to their voice. What does your audience want you to write about? Maybe it’s something interesting that you’d love to go for. Send a simple email asking your subscribers for ideas or better yet, create a survey to get multiple suggestions for future articles. Your audience will love you for it.

Blogging Tip #2: Understand Your Audience

Listening to your audience’s ideas is only half of the pie. You need to understand them. Understand their needs and interests and you will enjoy a very successful blogging career. Basically, apply the good old rule of marketing – give the people what they want.

Blogging Tip #3: Write For Yourself First

Many people get the wrong idea of blogging by starting out a blog in a niche that they are not genuinely interested in. This mostly happens when a beginner online marketer reads a piece of content (with proof of revenue) that basically tells them to go with a certain niche because it is profitable.

Don’t do that. When you are starting out as a blogger, just go with whatever niche is interesting to you. The money will come later on. Trust me.

Blogging Tip #4: Build & Nurture Your Mailing List

If you ever wish to create a self-sustainable online business, you have to focus strongly on email marketing. Building and maintaining your email list of subscribers is going to be the single biggest asset you will ever have. For more info on this subject, you can check out our email marketing 101 article and this case study.

Blogging Tip #5: Love Your Existing Readers

Do you know how rare it is for an Internet surfer to visit a website twice? Most websites on the Internet have an RVR (Return Visitor Rate) of around 25% or less. That means that only 1 in 4 visitors will ever return to the website. Generally, an RVR above 30% is considered good and an RVR around 50% or more means that your content game is really on point.

So, now that you know this, think about these visitors that actually return to your website. They are very special and you need to respect them. Create special offers for them, free giveaways, etc, because they really deserve it.

Blogging Tip #6: Give Stuff Away

Running free giveaways is one of the fastest ways you can grow your blog’s mailing list. Offer something relevant to your niche and your audience’s needs and just watch your traffic and mailing list grow.

Blogging Tip #7: Be Consistent

One of the biggest causes of bloggers quitting is inconsistency. They stop posting regularly and then they completely lose track and interest in their blog. And before you know it, the blog basically dies. And you don’t want that.

You want to post regularly on your blog and never lose track. And before you know it, it will become very popular – provided you create high quality content. How do you remain consistent? Well, that will be really easy if you’ve chosen a niche that you are interested in. It will just come naturally.

Blogging Tip #8: Share Your Knowledge

While most people would create products from their knowledge, you can simply share it for free. This is one of my favorite and easiest strategies to create a popular blog phenomenally fast. Only so many people will purchase a product, but almost everyone who is interested in something will take a look at said something if it’s free and if it sounds, well, interesting.

Blogging Tip #9: Be True To Your Voice

Don’t write with a certain style and tone just because you saw it on some other blog. Write from your core as only you can and no one else. Be unique, be authentic and you will win a lot more blog readers as opposed to being fake just to mimic something you were temporarily inspired by.

Blogging Tip #10: Black Hole Headlines

Black hole headlines? What? It just came to my mind and I went with it. Basically, the point of this tip is to write such compelling and attractive headlines that any visitor that spots them will go ahead and visit your blog. Yes, the gravity of your headlines should be that strong – this article might help in this regard.

Blogging Tip #11: Be Yourself

And no one else. Nothing more can be said about this one as it’s pretty simple no?

Blogging Tip #12: Make It Worth Referencing

Whatever piece of content you are writing for your blog, make sure that it is worth being referenced by another blog in the form of a backlink. You know those right? The connection blocks of the World Wide Web and the main currency of SEO.

Blogging Tip #13: Forget About Stats In The Beginning

If you are a beginner blogger, this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make – focus on stats and analytics instead of creating as much high quality content as you can. I remember at first when I started this blog how I installed a WordPress plugin that, in real-time, showed every visitor that hit the website. And let me tell you this, it is a waste of time. Build a quality blog with a fair amount of articles and then move onto analytics and optimization.

Blogging Tip #14: Create Shareable Content

Just like with the creating a referenceable content tip, this tip has the same point only it focuses on social shares. Social media has become a huge part of any blog’s success nowadays so, if you want your blog to be successful too, you need to create content that would subtly incline your visitors to share it. Keywords here are subtly and incline.

Blogging Tip #15: Mind Map Your Blog Posts

What the hell is that you ask? Basically, whenever you are writing a new blog post, you want to link out to relevant older articles from your blog. Internal links are extremely underrated, so trust me, you want to have a beautiful internal links structure. Creating a mind map of your blog posts will help you achieve just that.

Blogging Tip #16: Allow Guest Posting

When your blog gets popular enough, you can create a guest posting program (like we did) so that other people can benefit content to your website. This is one of the easiest ways to recharge your blog with fresh high quality content on a regular basis, even if you don’t feel like writing anything – and trust me, those periods come like a storm.

Blogging Tip #17: Write Timeless Content

Many beginner bloggers tend to focus on content that answers very specific questions and gets old pretty fast. And while that may help your blog grow faster in the beginning, its efficiency in the long-term is very low because once that article gets old, no one will read it and you will have to write a new one. So, whenever you can, try and focus on content that would always be useful to your audience.

Blogging Tip #18: Less Is More & More Is Less

When you are writing a blog post, don’t focus that much on the number of words you write. Instead, focus on sharing what you have to say and that’s it. Many bloggers get caught in the SEO side of content writing i.e. the blog post must be over X amount of words and it must contain exactly X% of the target keyword. I mean sure, you want it to contain your target keywords, but your main focus should be on providing value and sounding natural in your article.

Blogging Tip #19: Write As Much As You Can

Why do you think all those news sites always have their blog posts at the top of the search engines? Yes it is because they have built a lot of authority over the years, but it is also because they produce so much content. Search engines will always love a website for providing fresh content regularly, so don’t go by the rules of posting once or twice a week. Just post as much as you can.

Blogging Tip #20: Expect Negativity

If you think that the entire Internet is going to love your blog, then you are in for a surprise. Even if you produce the highest quality of content that provides the utmost value to its readers, you will still get some hate. Just go over and share your blog post on Reddit – I dare you.

Blogging Tip #21: Find Inspiration

You won’t always be able to force yourself to write when you are not feeling like it. However, finding an inspiration of any form will always get your writing engine going. Watch a good movie, interesting documentary, or read an inspiring book that you know will light the fire inside of you. These have always worked for me.

Blogging Tip #22: Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Web Design

In my online marketing career I’ve seen hundreds of blogs and let me tell you this – only a handful of them had an aesthetic design. I mean design is not everything, but the comfort it commands in your readers is a huge benefit to your blog.

Nobody likes to see an unstructured website with colors that have nothing to do with its topic. And we all know that no one likes to stay long in a home that’s dirty and messy.

Blogging Tip #23: Learn From The Experts

There are many ways you can quickly grow your blog but none of them comes even remotely close to this tip. Learning from successful blogs in your target niche is by far the fastest way to create a, well, successful blog. Period.

Of course, I’m not saying that you should copy a successful blog from top to bottom, but just learn from it and then introduce these concepts into your own blog while adding your own personal touch in the process.

Blogging Tip #24: Format Your Content

Paragraphs, headings, short sentences, etc, will all help your blog’s readers find what they are looking for quickly and they will love you for it. You don’t think that every person that visits a blog post of yours will read the entire thing right?

In many cases, people are only looking for a single bit of information that they really need and if you format your content accordingly, they will easily find it. Otherwise, chances are they will leave your blog and never return. It only takes a few seconds to lose your visitors’ interest.

Blogging Tip #25: Research Your Competitors

If you ever wish to be at the top, you have to know what the current top guys did and are still doing to get where they are and to remain there. Research their blogs, their monetization strategies, their backlink profiles, etc. The more you learn about your competitors, the better your chances of surpassing them. Just don’t be a copycat.

Blogging Tip #26: Guest Post As Much As You Can

Sharing your knowledge on popular blogs in your niche is a great way to grow your blog. Not only will you get a good and high quality backlink, but you will also potentially develop a relationship with the readers of the blog that you guest posted on.

Blogging Tip #27: Don’t Give Up

And finally, the best tip I can give any blogger out there is to never give up. Even if your blog has little to no traffic, even if it is making just a few bucks per month, don’t give up. Keep on writing, keep on improving, keep on learning, and sooner or later, you will get where you want to be.

Conclusion
